Essential Information

Reading

We love to share books together and we will try hard to read with your child 1-1 at least once in the week. To allow us to do this please ensure book bags are brought to school each day.

Our Library day is Tuesday, please return both library books and yellow library journals so your child can choose a book and we can reward their efforts in their journal.

Once children begin to progress through the RWI Phonics scheme they will bring home a reading book that they have been reading in lessons. The book is familiar to them and so encourage independent reading and praise all efforts.

PE

Our PE day is Monday, please ensure your child has a kit in school. The kit for indoor PE is black or green shorts and a plain white t-shirt. No pumps are required. The kit for outdoor PE is jogging bottoms, hoodie/sweatshirt and trainers.

PE kit with the school logo is available to order via this link: https://www.vortexschoolwear.co.uk/Primary-Schools/Greenfield-Primary-School/?fbclid=IwAR0dl_-XAiy2y0ROg0yE_hCj7f7Wa5C1YuJOpU44J7nLffFip1h6LEw8-Yc

Staff will inform parents when outdoor clothing/footwear is needed.

Forest School

Our forest day is Fresh Air Friday each week. Children do not need to wear uniform on a Friday, please send children dressed in clothes ready for the forest. Along with warm clothing, wellies and waterproofs to layer up in before we set off after lunch.

Play dough, Snack and Baking

A weekly contribution of £1 helps us ensure we have fresh play dough each week, a variety of foods for snack and baking, including hot chocolate for the forest.

Poetry Basket

We use an online course of thirty-six videos containing poems with actions, these include many lesser-known children's rhymes from anonymous authors and support children's reading skills. If you do not already have a Poetry Basket account ask for our discount code so you can access the resources for free using the link below.

"If children know eight nursery rhymes by heart, by the time they are four years old, they're usually among the best readers by the time they are eight."
