Taking care of our Forest

This week we read a story about a Messy Magpie who liked to collect items. As he found more items his nest and the forest were full of rubbish.

The Magpie thought the items were treasure but it was litter.

We saw the rabbits who were sad because they had rubbish in their burrow, the otter who had a plastic bag on his arms and the hedgehog who was stuck in a jar.

We know it's not good to drop litter as it can be harmful to the environment and wildlife.

We enjoyed joining in with the Blippi song Garbage Truck, we know this is another term for Dustbin Lorry. We watched how the rubbish is collected.

In the forest we used our large litter pickers and small tweezers to collect the rubbish.

Avianna asked "Where's the rubbish come from?"

We explained that someone had dropped litter and it had blown in.

"That's not good!" She said "They should put it in the bin!"

We didn't touch it with our hands as we know it can have germ on.

We had to squeeze the tools really hard to hold the rubbish. We did a great job!

"Now it's clean and safe for the animals!" Isaac said proudly.

After litter picking we had time to explore the forest.

We used the mud slide, tyre swings, mud kitchen, the bus, our clipboards and climbed trees!

It was lovely in the sunshine and much dryer than last week.

We had a surprise on the way to the forest. There were frogs and frog spawn in the pond!!

We saw them swimming and jumping, and listened to them croaking. Click on the images below to see them larger.

Mrs Shaw and Mrs Morrison held a frog for us to see.

They were very slippery and they wanted to jump. We quickly put them back into the water.

We can't wait to see the frog spawn hatch into tadpoles.
