Darning Socks

This term we have been enjoying our topic: World War 2 and the Battle of Britain.

As part of our topic, we have been looking at rationing and why this needed to happen. From the discussion, Mrs Hawkins set us a challenge to darn a sock. To start with we were unsure what darning even meant! When Mrs Hawkins explained, we were even more confused about why we'd fix a hole in a sock and not just throw it away!  We discussed why it might have been necessary to darn a sock in war times and were eager to have a go.

We found it really tricky at first to weave the wool through the sock but we persevered!

Thank you to everyone who gave up their socks to let the children have a go at this.

Here are our results...
