We Love the Forest!

13.2.2019

This week we explored and learnt about the shape, size and symmetry of hearts. The children wowed us with their mathematical knowledge and language. They collected different materials in the forest and used them to make their our own representations of hearts. Have a look, they have brilliant ideas and designs!

We manipulated wet mud and pressed in the moss

Mattie retraced the straight and curved lines of the heart

Ivy-Rose and Miss Brown made this heart, Ivy-Rose collected a "bag full" of stones!

Logan was determined to make a heart from the tyres but he needed a little help to move them because "they are too heavy" Whilst Mrs Staples followed the instructions for the position of the tyres, Logan collected two pieces of wood "for the pointy bit" He could do this because " they're not heavy they are light"

Perri collected and arranged lots of sticks

Ivan created a heart made of sticks of varying lengths

Raven used leaves to make her heart shape, she really persisted as it was a tricky job "the wind keeps blowing them away!"

image

Scarlett had collected a range of different sized stones and posted them through the holes on the cable reel; "Too big it not fit!"

image

Our newest afternoon children experienced their first forest fire today. They listened really well to Mrs Bamforth who talked to them about staying safe near the fire.

They listened carefully as Mrs Bamforth put on the wood and it made crackling sounds as it burnt.

We arranged many different sized stones into a heart shape

image

Florence and Alicia wanted to make a 'massive one' with their found objects

image

Sophia and Nola chose to collect a variety of sticks: "long ones and short ones"

image

Olivia and Iylah found a piece of "wiggly string" They arranged it on the table top and filled the centre with a mixture of "small and big" stones.
