The Great Nursery Bake Off!

After reading 'The Gingerbread Man' story we decided to host our own Nursery Bake Off!

Baking and cooking is a life skill. Providing children with real-life experiences is a fantastic way of supporting their learning in all areas of development. By following a recipe and modelling reading we teach children that reading has a purpose. Children learn with their senses, and baking provides lots of opportunities for communication and language. Take a look at our learning...

First we had to read the recipe, weigh our flour, sugar and butter, and mix them in a bowl.

We added a tea spoon of ground ginger and looked at the root ginger too!

We each made our own Gingerbread dough. We squashed it flat, pressing down hard, and used the Gingerbread Man cutter.

Our Gingerbread men went into the oven to bake. We let them cool and then we decorated them.

It was hard to get the icing out of the tubes, we had to squeeze really hard!

We used chocolate drops for the eyes, nose, ears and buttons, and counted them carefully. Can you see any other features...

We saved our Gingerbread Men to show all our friends online.

Our Year 6 children were our Bake Off Judges and they had the difficult job of choosing a Star Baker.

Look at all the baking our friends did at home, we think everyone did amazing!

Congratulations to Darcie W for being our Star Baker.
