The children have enjoyed learning about owls and reading the story Owl Babies written by Martin Waddell.
This week the children were faced with a challenge, to find Mummy Owl for the three owlets that were left in class.
The children searched high and low in the forest. They looked in all the places they thought Mother Owl might be.
The children used really clear talking voice to call out to Mother Owl
”come back to your babies mummy owl”
When the children found Mother Owl it was quite a challenge to get her down from her hiding place.
The children shared ideas, worked together and used problem solving skills: “let’s get something to stand on”
”we need to be taller” “I’m taller than you, Mrs Sherman is the tallest”
“we need a longer stick”
Once Mother Owl was reunited with her babies the children enjoyed retelling the story using the story props, sharing stories to the owls and their friends.
We were really impressed with all the story language that we heard.
You can share the story Owl Babies at home and see if the children can recall what happens.
Can they remember the names of the three Owl Babies?
where had Mother Owl gone?
How did the owlets feel?
Did Mother Owl come back?
