Art and Design

Intent:
At Greenfield Primary School, we believe that Art and Design will enable the children to express their creativity and imagination through the provision of visual, tactile and sensory experiences. Children are encouraged to express what they see, feel and think using colour, texture, form and pattern. They will enjoy a variety of art projects using different skills and materials throughout the school year.
As well as teaching the skills as outlined in the National Curriculum, we also learn about great artists, architects and designers. We study the impact they have had on our everyday life and on different cultures and periods in history.

Being able to appreciate and enjoy art gives the children a sense of pride and belonging, providing enrichment to our everyday lives.
.
Implementation:
At Greenfield Primary school for Art and Design we use PlanBee.
Within KS1, LKS2 and UKS2 we use a two-year rolling cycle. In each year children will do three school for Art and Design schemes of work comprising of 5 to 7 series of lessons.
In using PlanBee we are ensuring:
  • Coverage of National Curriculum objectives
  • Creating lessons that are engaging, informative and challenging
  • Making sure that lessons are accessible to all learners
Provide complete curriculum coverage from Year 1 to Year 6 for Art and Design.

knowledge and skills progression documents to highlight progress made in Art and Design across school.

Impact:
Children show clear enjoyment, self-expression and confidence in Art and Design and have love for the subject. They are able to look at art and critically reflect their own, their peers and the work of significant artists and designers and explain their reasoning.
In art and design, the school supports pupils with SEND through inclusive and flexible teaching approaches that enable all children to express ideas and develop practical skills. Lessons are adapted through the use of visual prompts, step-by-step modelling, modified tools and resources, and clear success criteria to support understanding and independence. Individual support plans are considered when planning, with activities differentiated to meet a range of needs and abilities. Where necessary, targeted adult support and pre-teaching help pupils access new techniques, materials, or vocabulary, while opportunities for creativity, problem-solving, and challenge ensure that all pupils can achieve success and make meaningful progress.
