School Council 2018/19

We have an active school council who meet regularly with Mrs Upperdine.  Two children from each class are voted in by their peers at the start of the year and they do many things throughout school and the wider community.

The main aim of the School Council is to help to make our school a better place for the children and to give us an opportunity to have our opinions and ideas heard.

At the first meeting of the year the important roles and jobs are selected and Mrs Upperdine helps us to conduct our meetings.

The class representatives tell the children in their classes what has been discussed at each meeting and the children can ask the representatives to take forward their ideas to the next meeting.

Everybody gets a fair say in the meeting and nobody gets left out.

2019 - 2020 School Council

We have an active school council made up of two pupils from each class.  Our councillors regularly with Mrs Upperdine to organise and discuss a range of topics and organise different things for pupils.

2022 - 2023

Our school council reps meet with Mrs Stewart to discuss issues of concern to them and the wider school community.

Our focus for the Autumn Term is around behaviour. We are looking at

  • playtimes and how to improve them
  • rewards and sanction - what works and what doesn't?
  • our school values in action

Actions so far:

  • We have decided that playtimes could be improved in school, so we have asked children, staff and parents to complete online surveys initially to help us decide what needs to change. We are also going to work with OPAL to help us make playtimes more interesting with lots of different choices. The school council will play an important role in developing playtimes this year.
  • We have asked children in classes about the rewards and sanctions that work well and motivate our children to be the best they can be. We will then look at our behaviour systems to see what we might want to change.
  • The School Council asked that we take part in Anti-Bullying Week on the w/b 14th November with a theme of 'Reach Out.' We started the week with Odd Socks Day to emphasise the fact that we are all individuals and are each unique in our own way and that is a good thing! We celebrate being different. Across the week, classes will be learning about being good friends, understanding what bullying is and what we can do to stop it. Our message is to reach out to friends, staff and our families if we need help.
