History
Intent:
At Greenfield Primary School, our history curriculum aims to ignite pupils’ curiosity about the past and help them understand how history has shaped the world they live in today. Through the study of local, national, and global history, pupils develop a secure chronological understanding and learn to think like historians by asking questions, using sources, and exploring different interpretations. We want children to gain a strong sense of identity, appreciate diversity, and understand key historical concepts such as change and continuity, cause and consequence, and similarity and difference. Our history curriculum supports the development of essential skills in reading, writing, and critical thinking, ensuring pupils are well prepared for the next stage of their education.
Implementation:
At Greenfield Primary school for History we use PlanBee.
Within KS1, LKS2 and UKS2 we use a two-year rolling cycle. In each year children will do three History schemes of work comprising of 5 to 7 series of lessons.
In using PlanBee we are ensuring:

Impact:
Through focusing on high quality teaching and learning we are ensuring children are developing skills, knowledge and understanding. The knowledge progression documents and evidence in children’s books demonstrate the impact of teaching and learning and ensure children fulfil their potential, have a true love of history and communicate confidently about what they have learnt.
SEND:
History lessons are inclusive and accessible to pupils with special educational needs and disabilities. Where required, pupils’ support plans incorporate appropriate objectives drawn from the National Curriculum for History or Development Matters, and teachers carefully consider these when planning learning. Targeted history-focused interventions support pupils who have gaps in their historical knowledge, understanding, or skills.
Pre-learning opportunities are used to identify pupils who may require additional support within lessons, with key concepts, vocabulary, or historical context pre-taught by class teachers or support staff. Within history lessons, teachers provide adapted activities to support pupils with SEND, alongside opportunities for greater depth and challenge for high-attaining pupils. All children are appropriately challenged through historical enquiry, use of sources, reasoning, and discussion, ensuring progress for every learner.
