Y3/4 Whitby Residential - February 2026

On Monday 9th February 2026, 50 of our Y3 and Y4 children went to Whitby for a 2 night residential where they stayed at Whitby Abbey Hostel. Mrs Cook, Mr Sargeant, Mrs Evans, Mrs Ogden and Mrs Wright went with them. The children were amazing and we were complemented on their behaviour and conduct so many times during our time away - not just from the YHA staff but those peoplethat  we met in the Lobster Hatchery, Lifeboat Centre and people who passed us when we were round and about in Whitby. It was an absolute pleasure to spend time together making super memories!

Arrival at the Hostel

We played in the gardens after lunch before heading out for a walk around Whitby.

We enjoyed our evening meal in the dining room - this is where we will have breakfast in the morning too.

Lifeboat Station

The volunteers were wonderful with us. The covered boat cost £2.2 million and the smaller one £100,000!

Lobster Hatchery

We saw some really tiny lobsters and lots of other fish. We enjoyed watching the fish getting fed.

Fossil Hunting

We searched and searched and searched! Some of us were lucky enough to find some fossils.

All of the food has been very good!

Pirate Quiz, Snacks and Birthday Celebrations!

One of our friends was 9 today and he brought cake to share with us all! We sang him happy birthday.

Lighthouse Challenge

The competition was fierce for this activity! Each team needed to build a lighthouse that could withstand wind, ice (thrown by Mr Sargeant) and hold a flame (lit by the YHA staff).

Final Day

On our last day, we went into the Abbey. The weather was not good - heavy rain and cold! We didn't stay outside long before going into the shop which we all enjoyed. Then we walked back to the hostel for lunch and to get our luggage. It took us around 2 and a quarter hours to get back to school. It was lovely to see our families!
