Roald Dahl

In our class we love Roald Dahl. Have you read many of his books? This year we have read Fantastic Mr Fox, The Magic Finger and we are now enjoying The Minpins!  When reading a new book these are some of the things that we do:

  • Drama (We become one of the characters... it's a lot of fun!)
  • Predict (We think about what might happen next and sometimes we even write the next part of a story using our own ideas).
  • Retell (We work with partners or small groups to describe what has already happened in a story. Sometimes we even use some of the ideas from the story but change them a bit to write our own version).
  • Guided reading (we use a page or section of the book in our guided reading session).

Come into our classroom and have a look at the work we have done about The Minpins on our big display board!

In the pictures below we did a post-it-snowstorm to record the things that we knew about Little Billy and put questions that we wanted to ask him around the outside...

We then worked with our talking partners to highlight the powerful adjectives and descriptive phrases that Roald Dahl had used.  There were lots!
